There are a few post-Beatles, but the bulk of this book takes us up to the mid-Sixties. These photographs divide into Ringo as a child (I found him easily enough in the picture of him at school – see whether you can do the same!), his adolescence, in Rory Storm and the Hurricanes and then, of course, the Beatles. Yes, there are short pieces of writing about some pictures, but the real joy here is in the actual photographs themselves. Comments such as, “That’s a very nice portrait of John Lennon, looking rather spiffy,” or “These are shots that no one else could have,” kind of sum up the majority of the description. It is fair to say that you can really ‘hear’ Ringo’s voice in the comments about the photographs which is a nice way of saying that there is not a great deal of detail.
